dream jobs...

I daydream quite a bit and most of the time it's about fantasy jobs. What are your dream jobs?
Here are mine (not in any particular order):
1. Owning my own business: bakery, knick-knack shop (basically all the things I've collected while traveling), book store, restaurant
2. Editor of Vogue (even stylist!)
3. J.Crew executive/creative director
4. Window dresser at Anthropologie (or even J.Crew stores!)
5. Working at MOMA/Louvre (I'll take anything!)
6. Working at Louis Vuitton/Hermes

Can you get high....

from a handbag? My mom & I trekked to our local Louis Vuitton store the other day and I swear I came out giddy as can be...and I didn't even get a bag for myself! The smell of the leather, the pouch that the bag rests in, the gift box! I love the box. You know your product is good when the packaging is just as nice. AHHH...I swoon.

Short Hair 101

Those of you who know me, know one thing...I've had long hair my ENTIRE life, without exception. Recent circumstances have caused me to totally change my look and I am now learning something I never imagined before...I love love love short hair. OK, let me back up...I've always known that I have loved it on others. I mean really, look at these 3 (Twiggy, Audrey and Linda) masters who rocked short hair. I just didn't ever believe it would look decent on me. Now, do I look as amazing as these 3? No way, but it's a whole lot better than I thought it would be. I figured my hair was just too unruly and I'd look like a puff ball. To my surprise, neither of these things are true...when my hair is short (ironically, both are true when it is long).

It would be really amusing, if the biggest lesson I learned from the last 3, fairly harrowing years, would be that I adore short hair on me. I doubt that it will be, but this new look has changed everything for me...so much for the better :)

have you ever wondered...

how Jcrew.com works behind the scenes? I received a J.Crew package last night (yay!) and one of the items I ordered included the "Dream Shawl Cardigan". I absolutely love it! I was hoping to take advantage of the 30% off final sale going on for a few days and have now noticed that the sweater is gone. But the big question is: Is it REALLY gone? I've checked the site enough times to know that things miraculously come back in stock at any given time... Anyway, I'm just curious....
Don't you love it when you find something that actually works for you??? I always want to own 3 pairs of everything I truly love.

mulling things over...

It's funny how searching for the "It" perfume leads you down memory lane...and how different scents define a version of you during adolescence and then adulthood. I ended up buying Stella McCartney's Stella Nude back in January. It was a total impulse buy and I loved the scent at Sephora, but wasn't so sure when my B. said it smelled like an old woman's perfume. Well, that's no incentive to wear it around him! But his opinion aside, I tried hard to like the darn scent. I'd invested in it so I kept saying I would learn to appreciate it. I'm stilling trying to appreciate it. I think it may have been too "heavy". Anyway, I continued on my quest for the next several weeks and started running into perfumes I'd worn in middle & high schools & college. I almost bought Anais Anais again just for the nostalgia factor..... What is it about perfume that makes you want to re-live your childhood all over again? My other two favorites were Lauren (who didn't have this?) & Paloma Picasso (a very unique scent, I think). So which perfumes take you back to your youth? (Here's what I ended up buying just recently & have been loving! This time...everyone around me likes it!)

Loving this look...

I think it's the bright red nails & accessories that really make this look...Also it doesn't hurt being beautiful.

Guess who's gone Greek?

You gotta love this...Yoplait has jumped on the 'greek yogurt' bandwagon, sporting their own version. I have yet to try it but I have to admit I am kind of excited to. Who knows if it will have that authentic richness and flavor...but I can't wait to find out. And how can you NOT want to try a product with an ad campaign that says this...

'From philosophy to strappy sandals, the Greeks were always in the know. It's no surprise that they created a delicious, healthy yogurt'

Cute, no?

Girl Crushes

I was rummaging through boxes of books last week, trying desperately to whittle my collection down and donate to our bi-annual book sale here at the library when I came across my copy of Marianne Faithfull's autobiography from the mid-90's. I had almost forgotten how cool she was...on second thought, no I didn't...she's a style hero forever.

My desk (aka products I just can't leave home without)

Inspired by Ms. M's "my lunch" post, this is a tribute to "What is on my desk at work". These 4 items are beauty care royalty (as far as I'm concerned). They're so good, in fact that I have had to duplicate them in my life...that is, a set for work AND a set for home. For me, there is just nothing better than Badger's Cocca Butter Lip Balm, Korres Lip Butter (in Plum), Ulta's Citrus Splash Hand-Sanitzer, and Kiss My Face All Day Creme De Jour (which is a little to thick for my face but perfect for my 'always way to dry at work' hands).

PG Tips

Speaking of tea & cookies...I love PG Tips! I just had a cup last night....I think it's more for the fact that it's imported from England, but the taste is very good too! Wish I had a cup right about now....

my lunch

At this moment I am having my favorite lunch: Fage yogurt w/ a teaspoon of agave nectar and cinnamon sprinkled on top (well all over the yogurt!).

Tea and (the perfect) cookie

My new favorite treat during a relaxing morning at home is tea (of any kind really) and Jules Destrooper Butter Crisps. These little, golden brown, mildly sweet, crispy waffle cookies are just heavenly.

So the question of the day is...

I just saw the greatest post on the blog A Cup of Jo. The entry was about Mick Jagger and the question Joanna Goddard asks is, "Can you have a crush on the young version of someone?"

Oh my gosh...are you kidding...the answer is Yes! of course. I've had a crush on the 'younger version' of Paul McCartney since I was 13. I love the music and the era but it is all just typified by Paul.

So what do you think of Joanna's question? Can you? Do you? Come on...you know you want to tell us ;)

And my winner is...

I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal's 'divinely different' (that was how some observant fashion police described her) Dries Van Noten gown. The print has the hint of an Asian theme and Maggie G. (a perennial fashion fave) pulls it off so well. In a sea of the bizarre (Sarah Jessica Parker...what?) to the incredibly boring (gee, there's Penelope Cruz in yet another origami shapped, solid color, 'prom' dress) I was so happy to see this gem looking so smashing.

best dressed

I am loving Sandra Bullock's dress & makeup for the Oscars...That lipstick color is phenomenal and her hair is just so. Absolutely love it! I think she's kinda cute anyway...not so sure if she deserves an Oscar, but she seems like a pretty down to earth person. Anway...she gets my vote for best look! Let me know what you think...Happy-Oscar-Watching!
