The weekend music mix

Don't think I forgot about you kids. I know you've been waiting for the latest installment of 'what did katiep hear on the car radio this morning, to get the weekend rolling'. Well, even though it was a pretty junky morning...one that included snow and rain (ugh), I did hear a super-fave with a great memory attached. I love love love America and 'Sister Golden Hair' is one of their best...not just because it's beautiful  but because it's one of their only songs that actually makes some sense, lyrically. I mean I love 'Tin Man' and 'Horse with No Name' but clearly, those lyrics go way over my head...or something :) Anyway, I have kind of always put 'Sister Golden Hair' in that category too...until a couple years ago when Chris and I were driving back to Rochester (from spending Memorial Day weekend in Pittsburgh) when we listened to and debated the meaning of, this innocuous song, for almost the entire 4 hour ride home. Here are the lyrics...try it out yourself...or just listen to the loveliness :)

Well I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed
That I set my sights on Monday and I got myself undressed
I ain't ready for the altar but I do agree there's times
When a woman sure can be a friend of mine

Well, I keep on thinkin' 'bout you, Sister Golden Hair surprise
And I just can't live without you; can't you see it in my eyes?
I've been one poor correspondent, and I've been too, too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind

Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air?
Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care?
Well I tried to fake it, I don't mind sayin', I just can't make it

Well, I keep on thinkin' 'bout you, Sister Golden Hair surprise
And I just can't live without you; can't you see it in my eyes?
Now I've been one poor correspondent, I've been too, too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind
