Accentuate the positive

Who doesn't love art with a positive message? Freya Ete has the right spirit. I've actually noticed more than a few bloggers posting her work on this anniversary of 9/11 and I can't think of a better day to remember to be thankful for all the good in our lives.

  2. yes, today is a sad sad day.... i still remember exactly what i was doing when the first tower was hit. strangely enough i was watching the today show & katie couric had just mentioned that a plane had hit one of the towers...it was so frightening & confusing... the whole day was really a huge surreal nightmare. ny really changed that day.

  3. I just realized what day it is, very sad. I also remember exactly what I was doing I was working a Barnes and Noble and was listening to the radio in the receiving area. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I really thought the world was coming to an end, buildings falling, planes falling out of the sky. I was so horrified. I remember taking a walk that evening with Joe and we were just numb.

Ms m. is so right with this picture it is very beautiful and calming!

  4. You know, that's exactly what we were thinking at work that morning. my boss had said she had heard reports that fighter jets were coming into the city and i swear it seemed like we were acting a part in a movie. when i was walking to the subway station i could see the smoke from the tower & didn't think much of it...it wasn't until i had reached nyu that i knew something was really wrong.
the chaos that day was just mind numbing...i remember walking aimlessly looking for a pay phone! can you imagine that? who ever thought to use a pay phone...and everyone was scrambling to find one... the lines were so long. getting home that day was horrendous...
the smoke filled all of lower manhattan/brooklyn for over a week....

    just very very sad.

  5. Such amazing comments guys. I also remember exactly what I was doing...who doesn't right? I am kind of in the same boat as you Ms. Macaron...I had just come back from a run. It was a gorgeous morning. I flipped on the Today show to catch the weather and saw the image of the Tower with a gapping hole and smoke billowing out. They were saying it must be an accident. Seconds later I watched the second plane hit. I am like both of you...I felt as the ground was falling out from under me.

I also vividly being with Ms. Macaron in NYC in '02. We were walking in the NYU area and Ms. Macaron stopped at a street corner ( I forget which ) and said,"This is where I was when the 2nd tower fell'. Truly horrifying and unreal.

  6. Wow,I really can't imagine what it must have been like for you actually living in the city. I was living in Boulder at the time, many miles away and was completely terrified. The thought of people scrambling for a pay phone is so sad, you guys must have just been in complete shock.
So sad, the further we get away from that day the better.

  7. yes, seeing the towers fall was incredibly sad--again, i kept thinking i was watching a movie. how weird is that? i think we become so de-sensitized to all this violence we see on t.v. & then to see it happen in real life.. well, it's just frightening.

when you stand right on washington square south, right next to Bobst library, you have a view of where the towers would have stood.
    again, so tragic

  8. Yes...that was it. I don't think NYC ever could be the same after a day like that.

Another thought I always have...you know I miss my dad everyday...but I am glad he was not here to see 9/11. No one should have to live through that.
