I read something kind of interesting this weekend (I think it was in the August issue of Lucky mag). Actually, it was just a statement in an article about the 'perfect jeans'...the writer mentioned that while wearing jeans and a white t-shirt is a always stylish and simple classic, it is very easy to get wrong. They also said that sometimes, it's the simplest looks that can really go wrong the most often. Boy, did that idea hit me like the proverbial 'ton of bricks'. I never articulated this thought but I sure agree. Let's face it, doing the jeans and white t-shirt thing is first dependent on getting the perfect pair jeans (which we know don't exist) and a tee that is just so...after that, it's all attitude so while this ensemble seems so simple it might be one of the toughest outfits to pull off. I am certain that I NEVER have, in spite of the fact that I've tried over and over and ... well, you get the idea.Here are 2 who do it to perfection...the iconic James Dean and Erin Wasson, spotted on Black *Eiffel for Hanneli (of course that gorgeous pooch doesn't hurt :)
well, of course these two are fabulous...and i'm sure they don't/didn't even have to try.....
ReplyDeleteyes, i think this is a great point because there are millions of us who get even this simplest of simple outfits wrong....i think it has a lot to do w/ the actual person & how they carry themselves... some people can have paper bags over themselves and they'd manage to make that look chic!

Well you know you are so right KJ. When it comes to simple, classic outfits like this...which are really designed to have the person come through most, it really does come down to the intangible quality. I still maintain that while some are born with it (our friend Sofia C. for instance) if you keep looking and watching and developing, anyone can boast a wonderful personal style.
