Fruits Basket

I am going to admit...straight up...that even I am a little surprised to be writing this post. That said, I think I might be obsessed with something I just learned more about last night. A dear and brilliant friend came over to my home yesterday for a little summer evening out on the deck. During our conversation over delicious Bellinis, she pulled out 3 manga books from a series called Fruits Basket. She suggested I read them because they are 'the happiest and cutest thing' ever. I must admit I was skeptical...but Adriane is no dummy. In fact, she's extrememly intelligent . One of the most intelligent people I know, so when she says something, I listen. I began reading the first volume in this series and, well, I think I love it! I flew threw the beautifully illustrated graphic novel and can barely wait to start another. While the stories are quite adorable and draw you in, the part that really struck me was the gorgeous characters and their completely amazing wardrobes. These little books are like make-believe fashion shows. And I am completely hooked.

  1. How cool! This looks neat, I am going to check it out too, can I find one at Borders? I used to love this book called "Fruits" it was a book of all sorts of photos of Japanese fashion. Not typical fashion but looked much like these characters. Do you remember that book?

  2. Yes! You can get the books at any bookstore. Adriane gets them all at Borders. Like I said, I never imagined I would like them this much. They are just very interesting and I love the illustrations. You know I don't remember the book 'Fruits' but I am going to google it now ;)

  3. I'd been interested in Manga for a while but I was so overwhelmed by the selection at the library so I basically gave up... This is great! Now I have somewhere to start. Thanks!

  4. Oh my gosh...that is exactly how I felt! Adriane too. And then, last summer, she was working at B&N ... she was working with some young kid who knew all about Manga, so she gave her some advice on where to start.
