Brit Coms

Ms. Macaron has opened up the subject of the Brits with her last two posts, which then reminded me of one of my favorite things in the world...British Comedy. Most people are pretty familiar with the better Brit Coms these days. You can usually catch them on PBS. That is how I discovered two (there are many, many good ones) that I've been watching over and over for years. Fawtly Towers, which is the brainchild of Monty Python veteran John Cleese, aired in the 70's. It is still incredibly funny today. There are only 12 episodes but they are absolute genius. With layered storylines and a brilliant cast, it is both hilarious slapstick and sophisticated humor, rolled into one. Keeping Up Appearances chronicles the antics of serial social climber Hyacinth Bucket (she insists her last name is pronounced 'Bouquet'). I have probably seen every episode of each of these shows a thousand times and they are always as funny as the first time I watched them.

  2. I got my mom the complete set of 'Keeping Up Appearances' a year or so ago. When I was in SC with her, we watched them every night. Again, funniest thing ever!
