Speaking of biking...

I absolutely loved Ms. Macaron's last post on biking, Parisian style...we really must be thinking alike because it reminded me that I have been wanting to post an entry about the ultimate in French biking...the Tour de France. I am not a biker but I don't know if there is a sporting event that is tougher and more exciting and frankly, more beautiful than this one.
It's broadcast of Versus almost 24 hours a day and if you tune in you will be treated to sweeping shots of the peloton artfully negotiating the gorgeous French countryside. Personally, I don't think you even need to like biking to enjoy this event...but if you do the experience is heightened that much. When you are done watching a day at the Tour, I also recommend catching The Triplets of Belleville on DVD. It's a super entertaining tour de force in French animation with a biking theme.

P.S. Don't forget to root for Lance Armstrong when you watch the Tour! A modern day hero and a biking legend all rolled into one!

  3. Oh my gosh...I didn't even mention the award ceremony which is just about my favorite part. Wait until the last day...right on the Champs Elysees...spectacular yellow everywhere. Such a thrilling event and of course so perfectly done by the French (now if they would only leave Lance alone it would be perfect :)
